The Menstrual Cycle in Sport

Y Cylch Mislif mewn Chwaraeon

The menstrual cycle is known to affect female athletes and participants, negatively impacting training, performance and participation in sport. However, this doesn’t have to be the case; with the correct support, developed through awareness and understanding embedded into coaching and individual practice, optimal performance can still be achieved throughout the menstrual cycle.

Sport Wales is offering menstrual cycle in sport courses and workshops via a mix of online and face-to-face opportunities.

There are 4 modules within this course to work through at your own pace:

  • Menstrual cycle 101
  • Menstrual cycle openness and conversations
  • Menstrual cycle training and performance
  • Menstrual health

Learning intention: the course provides an introduction to the menstrual cycle in sport focussing on what is the menstrual cycle, symptom awareness and management, considerations for menstrual health, along with advice on ‘starting the conversation’ with female athletes and participants.
